Health Screening Program
One in four adult Americans has high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. If left uncontrolled; it leads to serious health consequences, including heart attack, stroke, congestive heart failure and kidney disease. The Marathon County Red Cross provides free blood pressure screening at 23 locations throughout the county providing easy access to all residents.
The Red Cross blood pressure screening program is the only free program provided on a regular basis throughout Marathon County. Additional free blood pressure screenings are also provided at numerous health fairs. Free blood sugar testing is also available. Clients need to fast for at least 2 hours prior to a blood sugar testing.
As part of the screening program, the nurses provide health teaching and facilitate referrals. Physicians throughout Marathon County also refer their patients with hypertension to the blood pressure screening clinics as part of the monitoring process.
